Day 81
So I've been putting off blogging about my past week at the beach/in Charleston because I don't think I could ever adequately articulate how in love I am with that place. First of all I've already blogged about my love for the beach this summer, so I'll just say that Wild Dunes has this special place in my heart. It's on the beautiful Isle of Palms which is the epitome of beachy, island living. Colorful, gorgeous beach houses are everywhere you turn and people walk around with their beach toys bronzed, beautiful and barefoot. Wild Dunes, which is a community on the island is no different. It is just so uncommercialized and peaceful. Not to mention everyone dresses exceptionally well which you know I more than appreciate. And just being at the beach is heaven to me. The combination of the heat from the sun, the roughness of the waves and the refreshing beach breeze is unparalleled by any other setting. I love nothing more than laying out on my towel, reading a good book and being kissed by the sun. When I get too hot I cool off by playing in the ocean. It is truly divine.
Now to Charleston. I don't even know if I could accurately put into words how I feel about the city. It just holds this certain magic, this je ne sais quoi pour moi. Cobbleston streets are lined with palmettos. The architecture is historic and beyond compare. From the piazzas (porches) to the gardens to the wrought iron fences, charm and character is ubiquitous. And don't even get me started on history. I am an unashamed history nut and Charleston just feeds my hunger to learn about the past. True, Charleston's past is not always pretty as it was a city known for being exceptionally cruel to slaves, but no place is perfect. Charleston is Southern charm to a T. Carriage rides are still the most popular way to see the city. Don't even get me started on King Street, the most beautiful street of shops. Oh and there is also an open air market that is full of delightful gems, from sweet grass baskets to jewlery and everything inbetween. And if that isn't enough, while there I was able to see two wonderful friends from school who are spending their summers in Charleston on summer project (kind of like a summer long mission trip). Seeing Hunter and Kelsea, was just this breath of fresh air; a little taste of Cville, another city that I hold near and dear to my heart. So that is the best, most concise post on Chucktown that I could write. Hopefully it gave y'all a little taste of the city's magic. Here are some pics that'll hopefully bring the words to life.
